# Work mode

> Work mode collects every Domino App you can use on one page, so you can find and open Apps, request access, and add favorite Apps to your sidebar.

Work mode is the part of Domino where you find and use published Apps. It collects every App you can open, and every App you can ask to open, on one page. You don't need to know which Project an App comes from, keep a list of App URLs, or wait for someone to send you a link. Everything your teams publish for you is in one place, and the Apps you use most stay one click away in your sidebar.

Users with the [Consumer role](https://docs.domino.ai/cloud/admin/identity-and-access/manage-users/roles#consumer-role) start in Work mode, because Domino opens it when they sign in. Other users switch to it from the mode switcher next to the Domino logo, which offers **Work**, **Build**, and, for administrators, **Manage**.

## How it works

Work mode lists published Apps as cards. The list includes the Apps you have access to and the Apps their owners made [discoverable](https://docs.domino.ai/cloud/platform-capabilities/core-concepts/apps/operate.md#let-others-find-the-app), so you can find an App before anyone grants you access to it. Each card shows the App's thumbnail, name, and description, which the App's author sets when they [publish](https://docs.domino.ai/cloud/platform-capabilities/core-concepts/apps/publish.md) it. Expand a card to see details such as the version, tags, owner, and when the App was last updated.

What a card lets you do depends on your access:

* **Apps you have access to** open inside Work mode.
* **Apps you don't have access to** offer **Request access**. Domino sends the request to the App's owner, who gets an email and an in-app notification and accepts or denies it. To track your open requests, filter the list by **Access pending**.

Add an App to your sidebar to keep it one click away. The sidebar's [Favorite Apps](https://docs.domino.ai/cloud/platform-capabilities/core-concepts/apps/favorite-apps.md) list is personal: each user keeps their own set and order, and adding or removing a favorite doesn't change the App or anyone else's access to it.

To find an App in a long list, search by name, filter by Tags or by access status, and sort by publish date, last update, recent views, or name.

## Use an App

**1. Open Work mode**

If Domino doesn't open Work mode when you sign in, select **Work** in the mode switcher.

**2. Open or request the App**

Select an App's card to open it. If you don't have access yet, select **Request access**.

**3. Add it to your sidebar**

Select **Add to sidebar** (the plus icon) on the card to keep the App in your **Favorite Apps** list.
