Version/Environment (if relevant): All Domino deployments running Linux-based workspaces.

Issue:

Running pip install pywin32 fails with the following error: Raw code ERROR: Could not find a version that satisfies the requirement pywin32 (from versions: none) ERROR: No matching distribution found for pywin32 Note: you may need to restart the kernel to use updated packages.

Root Cause:

pywin32 provides Python bindings exclusively for the Windows API. Domino workspaces run on Linux, where the following Windows-specific dependencies do not exist:
  • Windows API — system calls, GUI manipulation, and registry operations
  • COM (Component Object Model) objects and Active Directory services
  • WMI (Windows Management Instrumentation) components
  • DLLs (Dynamic Link Libraries) and other Windows system resources

Resolution:

Use one of the following Linux-compatible libraries as an alternative. Install the one that matches your use case. python-xlib — GUI and window management Interact with the Linux X Window System, including windows, events, and input devices. Raw code pip install python-xlib subprocess — run command-line tools Run Linux command-line tools and utilities from within your Python script. subprocess is part of the Python standard library — no installation required. Raw code import subprocess result = subprocess.run(['ls', '-l'], capture_output=True, text=True) print(result.stdout) psutil — system and process monitoring Retrieve and monitor system resources such as CPU, memory, disk usage, and network data. Raw code pip install psutil DB-API — database connectivity Connect Python to databases using a standardized interface. Use a database-specific library for your platform: Raw code `# PostgreSQL pip install psycopg2

MySQL

pip install mysql-connector-python

Oracle Database

pip install cx_Oracle` For more information about pywin32, see the PyPI project page.
